Since summer 2010, eleven partners from Germany, Czech Republic and Austria are collaborating in the project “Improving Quality of Life in Small Towns - QUALIST“.
The specific objective of the project is to develop and implement measures to respond on negative impacts of demographic and social change in small towns. These measures are aimed to improve the quality of life of the existing inhabitants and to raise awareness of potential new citizens.

The issue of sustainability is addressed, e.g. through:
The promotion of innovative and demography oriented public transport services (to attract more passengers to public transport
services) as an alternative to the increasing individual motorization in small towns and rural areas, Innovative and demography
oriented mobility concepts for small towns in rural areas - based on tested pilot schemes e.g. in Saxony - are planned
The innovative housing concepts as part of revitalization of town centres with provision of public services in the proximity of
residential areas.
Development of a transnational concept for target-group oriented presentation of small towns through elaboration and testing
of innovative QUALIST tools in the regional initiative Wohnen im Waldviertel
